Psycho 78s Roller Derby, New Jersey’s No-Holds-Barred Roller Derby team, will host their season opening game on July 16, 2011. The 78s are NJ’s first no-rules team, and have both an all-women and co-ed roster. The team is featured in Chatham’s July 4th parade and was a part of last year’s Boonton Day celebration. Psycho 78s practice out of Wharton and represent New Jersey in Renegade-Rules (no-holds-barred) roller derby. The 78s have athletes from NJ, NY, and PA, and compete across the US. The event will take place at the Parsippany Presbyterian Church, located at 1675 Rt. 46, Parsippany, with doors opening at 5pm. Admission is $10 per person, and all proceeds will be donated to secular, Tennessee Flood Relief efforts. Psycho 78s hope to showcase the most exciting form of the sport possible while simultaneously raising funds and awareness for charity. The team can be found online at facebook.com/psycho78s and can be contacted via e-mail at psycho78s@yahoo.com

Chaverim, a Jewish Cultural and Social organization at Fox Hills, an active adult community in Rockaway, NJ, chose the Rachel Coalition as a charity to support. The Coalition works to educate and help victims of domestic violence. To raise funds for the Coalition, members of Chaverim staged a production of ”Schmutzerella”, a musical parody of ”Cinderella”. All proceeds ($2,424) were donated. Co=presidents Carol Lidz, Sandra Adler and producer Jane Adler presented a check to Beth Turetsky, member of the coalition executive board.
